Mercy Vane has decided to follow Anna into the green gold sparkling dust of the Martyr's Mirror, a sacred book found in the Mennonite church a few miles away. But instead of finding the mysterious Anna, Mercy finds herself in late 16th century Europe, still fighting a war of religion, where death is very real and the people very rough.
